Bottom Shelf

The weather here today was surprisingly wonderful, so I got dressed and managed to struggle my way first to take the trash out, then to the grocery.  Okay, before the knee injury, the walk to the grocery would have been a four minute walk if the traffic is good, seven if traffic is bad.  Today, it was closer to twelve minutes, most of which was me standing on the corner waiting for the traffic to slow down in order to cross the street.

Who knew that standing would end up being more painful then walking?  I ended up nearly passing out once I got there. Not the greatest thing on the planet.  From there, I walked to mother's for the afternoon.  Had to go back to the grocery mid-afternoon, and while I was there, decided to buy a dvd.  The check out guy who was working the movie shelf wasn't very swift on the uptake when I named the movie and asked for it.

He was searching the wrong shelf, on the wrong end, and here's me telling him to "move down to the side to the right down farther there right there there".    Anyone wandering past would have thought god knows what just from the conversation.

The check out guy, said he hadn't even seen the dvd on the shelf, had no idea they even carried it. All I know is that he needed to be given directions and even then seemed clueless.
He was cute though, clueless as he was.

But it really made me miss Zane.

The one who got away

I came across an email from last year this time that I had forgotten about.
It was a horoscope reading I had done for the year.   In it, it talked about there being a man coming into my life in early January (2011) who would interfere with me getting together with the one I'm suppose to be with. It continued to say that I needed to avoid this man until middle of September (2011)

As I look back over things, I see that Storm started talking to me back in January and ironically, stopped talking to me middle of September.
Has my semi-crush on him destroyed my future? Did me putting energy into that whatever it was, take away from the energy I was suppose to be putting into finding Mr. Scratchy?

I may never know.
The really odd thing is, that type of horoscope reading is not something I would have normally forgotten.  It's the type of thing in the past I would have opened and read every single day and lived in total fear of meeting the wrong guy.

As far as life as the grocery goes,  Zane has gone off to university full time; I haven't seen him at the store at all in the last month.   Conrad hasn't been on shift either, I have no idea what happened to him. The Drama Queen, I bumped into her yesterday when she was on her break and I was coming back from the liquor store {I needed a cocktail} and her only topic was her husband having to work late.

Then there is Storm.
As much as I hate to admit it, I'm still hurt about the fact he's ignoring me.   I have no idea what the situation is, but I'm wondering if maybe he's dating someone again?
And I'm still not sure I even really ever liked him.

Zaniness of it Part 5

On my way home from mother's tonight, stopped in at the grocery for a few minutes.  Decided to go through Zane's check out because it's express.
Jammed to the gills with people.

He smiled really big at me when he saw me and asked how everything was. Told him fine, and noticing his hair had started to grow back in.
He replied that he wasn't sure if he was going to keep up the mohawk or not.  Then I asked where his glasses were?
He blushed telling me that he's always in a rush in the mornings and has forgotten them a bunch of times, pointing to one of the ladies who works the next tile, he then told me he can't see anyone.
My reply, "might be a good thing."

He blushed again as I told him I happened to really like the glasses {no I did not tell him I generally melt for men in glasses that would be too much for the poor boy}
He blushed again saying he liked hearing things like that.  I sort of shook my head cause I know we had a similar conversation about that awhile back when he first got them.

Zane-: "You're bleeding."  he pointed to my arm.

Me-: "Yeah, Mr. Scr... I had a bit of a scratching issue little while ago."   {right like Zane needs to know about my Mr. Scratchy}

Zane-: "Take care of that."  he was still blushing when he handed me my bill.

That is the most relaxed he's been around me in two years.

The Zaniness of it part 4

I walked into the grocery this morning for milk on my way to mothers and as I turned the corner around the Starbucks, I thought I saw something.  Or I should say someone.
It was Zane with a very cutting edge look happening.

He spotted me, and ran towards me with his hands deep in his pockets, leaning his neck towards me as if offering up his skull for me to pet or something.

The boy had gone and gotten himself a mohawk and suddenly was wearing glasses. I sort of stared at him for a brief few seconds then asked "what's up with The Celebrity cut?"
He shrugged and said that he thought he'd give it a try out.   I then complimented his glasses and he blushed five shades of red.

Zane-: "Thanks. I really appreciate hearing that."

I wanted to ask him for coffee sometime but chickened out. Instead, I picked up the milk that my mom had called me asking to get for her, got in line at The Drama Queen's check out, and watched over her shoulder as Zane was quickly engulfed in a sea of women.
It's like his groupies come out of the shadows like leeches on whales.  Whoever he does date, I hope she's both very confident and knows how to throw a few uppercuts, because women are always trying to score him.

The Zaniness of it Part 3

I stopped off at the grocery on my way home from the doctor's today for eggs and saw that Zane was working express.  It was surprisingly free from his normal array of groupies, in fact, there was only this one old couple hobbling through on their walkers.
As I stood there, I kept noticing his eyes shifting in my direction.  Yes, I actually looked behind me to see who he might have been looking at.   The store was nearly dead tonight.

Me-: "You're growing out your hair."

Zane-: "You noticed again!"  he blushed, smiled slightly, and even let out a bit of a giggle when I said that. "Funny, you noticed as I was just saying yesterday that it's time for a cut.  I need to get one."

He smiled at me with this massive grin for some crazy reason as I paid for my eggs. Then he blushed again.   I walked a few feet away turned back and caught him looking at me.

I am officially going on record saying that that felt like a flirt.  If so, damn that boy is sending some mixed messages.

Tidbits- Sunday

"I'm so mad right now Darling! I can't believe it. I read your new blog"   The Drama Queen said as I went through her check out earlier.

"Oh?"  my mind raced suddenly, was she talking about this?

TDQ-: "That spicy one.  I like it.  I think you should make that character of Kai the hero."

I let out a bit of a held breath.  She was meaning she read my latest story I am writing on a separate blog.  "Yeah? You like that character?"

TDQ-: "I like the villains. You going to turn it into a horror story? My husband's nephew lost his cell phone at the fair last night. Called us about it."

Me-:"How'd he call then?  There's only so much I can do with it online cause of the whole censor thing but we'll see."

TDQ-: "Borrowed his friend's.  So my husband asked him why the hell he was calling us and not his dad? He said he knew his dad would freak out over it.  We got it back, but we're teaching him a lesson. He thinks it's still lost. Oh my god Darling, the last phone bill was over $300 dollars just in text messages!"

Me-: "Wait is this the twenty something?"

TDQ-: "Yeah the one with the mental problems. He's got the brain of a 10 year old. Anyways, He called asking if we would contact the phone company for him, wanting to know if they would give him a new phone. My husband said no."

I paid for my groceries, noticing that Zane was standing a few feet away against the customer service desk leaning on his elbows, one ankle crossed, staring at us.  Here was me  having had been out on a two hour walk, dressed like the bum that I try not to be when I go for groceries. Great time to bump into Zane. The line was starting to get busy so I told TDQ that I would catch up with her later. Zane looked like he was about to say something but just put his head down when I walked by closing his eyes.
I think I am done even trying to get his attention.  Chalk Zane up as yet another lost cause.

Words, words, words Just words

Ink stains on my fingers, a few streaks of smudged blue across the white page and the back of my hand, my wrist.
Being caught in the middle of a writing session for me is like other people being caught masturbating.

I was tucked neatly in the corner table of Starbucks with a new notepad that was falling apart the second I cracked the spine.  Totally in my own little world, when someone bumped the table.  Looking up I closed the notepad quickly.

Zane was standing there looking at what I had been writing.

I know I was ten shades of pink in under a second.  This is also why I like to do my notes in long hand so that no one can read my handwriting.

In this case, I was working out a few quirks on a new short story.  Zane had inspired a scene and  I had been taking notes on his movements, trying to describe the shape of his nose, the outline of his shoulders under the tapioca-caramel coloured uniform. Until he decided to peek over my shoulder at my notes.

Here's the thing, he never said anything, just turned away like he always does and started to chat it up with this teenaged girl who was standing around by his side of the check outs.   Not too sure if that is good or bad.

She flaked

I got a text around noon from Musician telling me another girl flaked on him for a date.   My gut reaction was to say "welcome to my world now you know how I felt with those guys"   But I did not, instead I asked if he wanted to meet me for coffee.
Oh why did I do that?

He met up with me out at the electronic store where I was trying to find a new printer.  The one I could afford did not have any toner available in store and the sales guy could not order any.  I had to forgo my printer today and will have to try another store tomorrow.   Another road block for my novel.

We had our coffee, and he told me about his latest complications in dating and I stared at the display case of dvds that were on sale.   Yes, my biggest addiction besides The Celebrity and The Other Guy is movies okay, lest it's not drugs.  SATC's Carrie had shoes, I have dvds.

He wanted to know what he's doing wrong to make these women bail on him.   I was tempted to give him a run down in why I believe he's pushing them away, but I held my tongue for a bit and just asked him what he thinks the issue is.
He keeps coming back to the fact he's only attracting heavy set women to him.  The women whom he's attracted to are the ones who are standing him up.
Seriously, I could sit here and point out the fact he seems to have no clue when he's invaded someone's personal space, or that he never puts down his cell phone... dudes he talked to me from the toilet this morning I kid you not... so gross really so gross.

My day ended about an hour ago when I was on my way home from mother's, via the Starbucks located in the grocery; where upon I was standing behind a very slow moving Zane as he gathered up store carts. Then stood around as the line in the Starbucks expanded to reach the doors while the new guy flirted with this girl who just did not want to move to the side for the rest of the customers even though she wasn't even getting anything.
I ended up sitting down for a few minutes, watching the length of the Starbucks and the express check out where Zane was.

I am curious to find out who has more groupies,  Zane or the new Starbucks Guy?

Midafternoon's Scream

I was standing in line at the grocery, when BettyAnn, one of the ladies who lives in mother's building, got into line behind me.  She had a wrist brace on struggling with her groceries and her walker. So I waited.  Zane was standing few feet behind me at his checkout. He kept walking over a couple of steps then making little circles and back tracking. Now I know he wasn't just bored because he mans the self check out now, all four of them, and they were hopping with people.
As I was carrying BettyAnn's bags back for her, I bumped into Storm who was zipping around with customers. He did the walking backwards for a few minutes while talking before BettyAnn told him to do his job and get out of the way.
OUCH!
I ended up heading back to the Starbucks after I carried her stuff in and while I was sitting there with my iced-coffee, I saw Zane once again standing around.
Me, I took a seat in the tables area and just soaked up the air conditioning for a few minutes.  Zane on the other hand, started to do his little spinning-in-circles-few-feet-then-back-dance; this time towards the tables.

I just do not understand men? I want to say to you readers that Zane is on the edge of asking for my number, but this weirdness of his has been going on for months.

I was thinking of walking up to him and casually saying to him about not having enough groupies today for him to dazzle but I decided better.  As I do not think that would have gone over too well, in fact I think it might have gone over his head.

Wanna try me?

Mitch-: "You do not act like a single person."

Me-: "I don't? Okay good to know."

Mitch-: "Really. You have this air about you that is very stand offish.  Like a woman who is already spoken for. That's why he hasn't asked you out.  I heard him talking to The Drama Queen about you, so I'm fairly sure he's interested in you."

This was the conversation I was having with Mitch, when I went to return some dvds.  I had been asking about a new release, when he made the comment about me spending the night home alone and why wasn't I out on a hot date? Which led to the ever so humbling and humiliating answer of me being totally single for way too long. That's when he made his comment about Zane.

The only "dates" I've had lined up in the recent while has been coffee meetings with the Musician, which by the way, he's cancelled on me a few times because he's had actual real live better offers.  You know, it's one thing to have a guy stand you up, but it's very much another to have your buddies blow you off.

We'd gotten on the topic of Zane because he had been dropping off a dvd himself as I entered the building. And once again, he spoke to Mitch but brushed past me without a word smacking into my shoulder.
I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it a billion times still, but no high school is never over is it?

Mitch-: "Just ask Zane out if you want to date him. Let him know you're up for grabs."

Me-: "Up for grabs? What am I, a prize or something? You make me sound like I'm a job position or something."

Mitch-: "Isn't dealing with a woman a bit of a job?"  he moved his arms in front of him  "Don't hit me. Just teasing."

Me-: "I'm not going to hit you. Suplex you maybe."

Mitch-: "What's that move that one wrestler you like does, where he flips you around his neck and over?"

Me-: "What the CradleShock? or the Wastelands?"

Mitch-: "Yeah the first one. the shock one. See, I'm learning. Paying attention. But if you want to get into Zane's pants, you need to just try talking to him."

Me-: "It's not like I haven't tried talking to Zane. He literally won't. I say hi and he looks in the other direction. I walk past him and he spins around so f**cking fast on his heels and talks to whomever else is around or does what you just saw him do. Push past me hitting my shoulder."   I was pointing wildly at this point talking with my hands completely worked up about Zane.

Mitch-: " Maybe he's totally got a boner for you and had to leave before you noticed."

Me-:" You did not just say that."  I was laughing at this point so much I started to sound like a yelping animal.

Mitch-: "You could always show him your boobs. That I'm sure would get his attention."

Me-: "You're the second person to tell me to do that when trying to get a man's attention. One more person tells me this and I might have to actually try it. Oh hang on, I sort of did by accident. I wonder if that's why Zane won't talk to me?"

Mitch-: "How did you accidentally show him your boobs? What did he trip and fall into your chest?"

Me-: "No, I was wearing a low cut shirt and leaned over too far."

Mitch-: "Who was the other person?"

Me-: "This indie wrestler I used to be friends with about two years ago told me to try it in regards to The Other Guy. I told you about that and the blog and everything. How the whole thing with him and The Celebrity started."

Mitch-: "And did you?"

Me-: "No."

Mitch-: "Why not? I think it's marvelous advice."

Me-: "The Other Guy never tried asking?"  I grabbed up my purse and started to head for the door.

Mitch-: "If I asked would you show them to me?"

Me-: "You're not The Other Guy."

Mitch- : "But you would if he asked?"

Me-: "Who wouldn't if he asked?"

I do Did I?

I stopped in Starbucks on my way home tonight from mom's.  Feeling worn out and all I could think was I needed the biggest coffee I could find. The Drama Queen was on her dinner break and hanging around the back of the grocery, where the Starbucks is.
She wears Dior Dune.  I'm a Burberry Brit girl myself.   I know this because she was leaning in over my shoulder while I was in line, and I could smell nothing else.  It even overpowered the coffee if you can believe it.

TDQ-: "I've been standing around since 8 am. Thank god I have tomorrow off. Not that it matters, as I've got another wedding to go to and my husband has to work until 630. God..." she turned to smile at one of the new check out boys. "We never see each other anymore, you know. Did I show you the necklace he got me last week?  And check out this ring. He's got no taste at all when it comes to gifts. If I could, I would have taken it back and got the money. Why are you back here again today? Weren't you just here like two hours ago?"

Me-: "I'm on my way home from mom's. Just wanted to pick up a coffee and some chocolate."

TDQ-: "Ohmygod Darling! Did you see that?"  referring to a semi-cute construction worker who wandered into the building and over to the frozen foods. "I miss being single. It's not worth it being married to him. We never see each other. If I had my way, I'd never have gotten married."

Me-: "What?"   and I'm thinking, TDQ spent a full year and a half doing nothing but talking about the wedding few years back, and that she's been with her husband now for almost 8 years. I thought this while I watched her undo the top button of her shirt and walk over to the construction worker chatting him up.

When she returned as I was about to leave the building, she grabbed me by my elbow pulling me closer to whisper something I could not hear then nodded.  I was about to say I didn't catch what it was she had said but then her cell went off with a text.   It was her husband.

TDQ-: "Ohmygod! Darling! He's telling me that his brother is coming over for dinner now. What the hell? Oh well, lest I'll have someone to do tonight."   {yes she actually said someone to do not something} "Okay, I've got to get back breaks over. Say hi to your mom for me."

As I was turning to leave, I spotted Zane standing outside on his break.  Earlier in the day, when I stopped in the store for milk, Zane had been on shift.  I guess he was pulling a double shift or something. I caught him staring yet again, then he turned, walked away, tossed his cigarette in a puddle, and went through the other set of doors back into the building.   I have yet to figure him out. I always catch Zane looking at me, but whenever I say hi, he turns his eyes away and will runaway.
I know he's not shy. He talks to everyone else. Flirts madly with every other female that comes through the store.

The Zaniness of it part 2

I was walking home and bumped into G-Babbs who was walking her dog.  We were standing on the sidewalk behind the grocery.  The dog started to bark it's head off, so I bent down to pet him to see if that would quiet him.
Then I spotted what the dog was barking at. Or I should say who.   Zane was coming around the building.
Let me tell you that it was a very hot +28degree Celsius here today, and I was wearing a cammy. Low cut.
When Zane got close enough for me to see that it was him, it was too late.  I'd pretty much fallen out of my shirt. The guy stopped, lit a cigarette (I had no idea he was a smoker) and kept his head down.  He did wave though and said "hi".
G-Babbs continued to talk, the dog continued to bark and when I looked over, I spotted Zane turning the corner of the grocery I suppose to go back to work, and he looked over at me.
Damn, I got caught looking, as did he.
Only, because of the cammy, I think he saw more then needed of me at this time.

The Zaniness of it

Normally, I do not go through Zane's checkout.  Simply because his express line, smells like the perfume counter at the mall.  Women of all ages, sizes and styles flaunt themselves at the poor guy.
Today, I spotted him in the regular checkout  and at 2:30pm it was nearly empty so I got into his line.

Me-: "They moved you over here to this end today for a change of scenery?"

Zane-: "Yes. And I hate it. I hate working this end. It's lonely"

Had there not been some 80 year old guy standing a centimeter away, I would have lingered long enough to flirt some.  But there was an 80 year old guy standing a centimeter away waiting his turn in line. One of the rare times I've seen a man in Zane's line by the way.

Not too mention, all I could think as I left the place was that Zane could not possibly ever be lonely, given how much female attention that guy gets where ever he goes.  I've seen him at the mall walking minding his own business with his earphones on, a few high heeled stalkers flipping their hair; trying to be first to get his number.  I've seen a few girls nearly wrestle each other out of the seat next to him on the bus.

Then again, if I think back to something The Celebrity and The Other Guy once said on the show "it's lonely at the top".
Maybe Zane's finding that out?

The groupie syndrome

I once heard Patricia Kennealy-Morrison, say  "everyone is somebody's groupie"   (well read it on her blog once actually)  It's a quote I have used a few times  and one I pretty much live by.

I was getting stuff for supper, and for once the store was nearly dead, and I spotted two girls no more then about 15 years old trekking through the grocery giggling like mad; looking for someone.  It's not difficult to figure out they were there for either  Conrad or Zane.
Honestly, I did not stick around to find out.  Both of whom were in the stock room in back.

Jealousy would have been my first thought, but when it wasn't, I shocked myself.  What went through my mind first was defeat.  Second, they're so young.  Next was, I guess we make idiots of ourselves over men at any age. And last was, everyone has groupies.  Then there was some jealousy and a slight bitterness.

Simply because, Conrad has been starting to pay some attention to me and Zane is forever pulling the staring -look away-stare-smile-look away-stare-walk past bumping into my shoulder-  thing that guys like to do.
I know, it's like high school never ended.

The difference between myself and these girls is that they knocked on the door to the back room; and demanded attention, and that's something I'd never dream of doing.  It's just not in me to be that bold.

Teenaged groupies 1   - Me  0
